The Comic Artist's Slide

The Comic Artist's Slide - Composed by John C Grant (https://johncgrant.com). Traditional composer from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland.

Jonny Cannon is a cartoonist from Ayrshire and self-publishes his work through his small-press label, Cannonhill Comics. To date this includes The United: Welcome to the Shitshow and The United: Going Underground.

He has worked on various other comics and commercial illustration projects. He co-created (and drew) Transylvanian Knights with James McCulloch, published by Comichaus. He drew a two-page comic strip written by Alister Black for the book Vigilantia: What Happens When Artists and Writers Pay Attention to Mogwai, published by Chroma Editions. He drew Chrissy, written by Antony Esmond, in Hidden Lives, published by Tribute Press. He co-created a two-page comic strip with his daughter Penny called Adventures in Woodlore, which was published in D.U.I. 2. He designed the covers for Voldo’s EP Propaganda Machine and the album Melting Pot.

His earliest memories are of comics and he maintains that it was love at first sight. His childhood dream was to draw comics, but life took him down a different path. He eventually began self-publishing his own work at the age of 40 and it gave him a renewed sense of purpose, helping him to maintain his sobriety as a recovering alcoholic. Being a cartoonist isn’t just what Jonny does, it’s who he is. He also has a moustache.
