Nestled at the juncture of Cunningham Street, Burns Street, and Sandgate Street, the heart of Tarbolton is marked by the iconic Tarbolton Cross. From this vantage point, a captivating tableau unfolds before our eyes. On one side stands the renowned Bachelor’s Club, forever entwined with the legacy of Robert Burns and his companions. Gazing in the opposite direction, the historic Tarbolton Parish Church emerges, an embodiment of the area’s enduring heritage. The crossroads offer a window into Tarbolton’s past and a glimpse of the rich tapestry that has shaped its identity.
Tarbolton Cross is the site where the Cross Keys Inn was located. The Cross Keys hosted Lodge St. James when it was reconstituted in 1782. It was also at this location that, on 9th August 1844, the three sons of the poet were made honorary members of the Lodge.
