Robert Aitken McCroskie hails from the heart of Burns Country, nestled in the charming parish of Tarbolton. He shares his life and home with his beloved wife, Maureen McCroskie.

Robert’s educational journey took him through Ayr Academy, where he honed his knowledge, and on to Jordanhill College, Strathclyde University, and Glasgow University, where he furthered his intellectual pursuits.

A man of many talents, Robert actively engaged in a variety of sports. He graced the rugby fields for Ayr and Glasgow teams, achieved a Dan grade in karate, indulged in amateur football, and even led and coached a gymnastics team.

Throughout his life, Robert has been an ardent advocate for all things nature-related, nurturing an unwavering passion for the outdoors. His heart lies particularly close to trout and salmon fishing, thriving in his idyllic riverside residence along the picturesque River Ayr.

An enduring love for the works of Robert Burns has always been a part of Robert’s identity. His strong commitment to Freemasonry saw him rise to the esteemed position of Past Master in the Lodge of Robert Burns - Tarbolton (Kilwinning) St James No. 135, where the great poet himself served as Depute Master from 1784 to 1788.

Robert currently holds the esteemed position of President at the Tarbolton Bachelors’ Club, a role he takes immense pride in, alongside his chairmanship of the Tarbolton Bachelors’ Club Committee.

For 41 years, Robert has served as a Church Elder at Annbank Parish Church, a testament to his unwavering dedication to his faith and community.

In his professional life, Robert embarked on a fulfilling career as a secondary school teacher, eventually ascending to senior management positions. He concluded his professional journey in a school dedicated to children with additional support needs. Since retiring from the realm of education 13 years ago, he remains an active and engaged member of the community.

Beyond his various roles, Robert also sits as a Justice of the Peace on the bench in Ayr, contributing to the administration of justice in his local area.

Robert’s philanthropic spirit shines brightly through his involvement with two noble causes. He is deeply committed to ‘Ayrshire Sportsability,’ a charity striving to enrich the lives of children with disabilities across Ayrshire through the medium of sports. Furthermore, he plays a pivotal role in ‘Recovery Ayr,’ a charity dedicated to aiding people of all ages on their journey to recovery from addiction. As a founder, he continues to actively support both organisations by serving on their management committees and as a trustee on their boards.
