Paul J Brunton

Paul J Brunton - Composed by John C Grant (https://johncgrant.com). Traditional composer from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland.

Paul J Brunton was born and raised in Ayr, where he inherited a deep love for music from his father, John, a hairdresser with a passion for The Kinks and The Beatles.

Paul’s journey into the arts began at age 11 with his first stage performance, reciting Tam O’Shanter. At 16, he taught himself guitar, eventually forming a band with friends while studying at the University of Glasgow. Paul’s professional path in the arts was shaped by his early experiences at Borderline Theatre in Ayr, where he witnessed the transformative power of the arts on people’s lives. This experience led him to work with numerous arts organizations across Scotland, including Dancebase, NTS, 7:84, Burnsong, the Citizens Theatre, and the Brunton Theatre.

In addition to his work in the arts, Paul was also making a mark as a writer, publishing short stories, and performing and releasing original music under the name The Sundancer. These paths naturally converged, leading Paul to establish Rock ‘n’ Role Models in 2012, an initiative aimed at inspiring creativity through songwriting.

Over the years, Paul’s approach to creativity and self-expression has positively impacted thousands of people, particularly young people. His recent work as Lead Artist for the Remembering Together project in East Ayrshire, a Covid Memorial initiative, involved capturing stories and engaging communities in creative activities.

Currently, Paul is working on a sci-fi novel and new music, all the while maintaining a lifelong passion for the life and work of his Great-Great-Great-Great-Great Uncle, Robert Burns. Paul currently resides on a cottage near Carnell House on the Carnell Estate, Ayrshire, Scotland.
