Katherine Mary Derbyshire, affectionately known by a variety of nicknames such as “Kath,” “Kathy,” “KD,” “Kat,” “Derbs,” and “Lady Derbs,” was born in Ealing, West London. However, she spent much of her childhood in Romsey, Hampshire, before ultimately returning to the vibrant energy of London, where she now resides.
Professionally, Katherine is a dedicated Production Journalist at the Daily Mirror, a job that sees her meticulous nature come to life within the fast-paced world of journalism. She enjoys the challenges and satisfaction of this career.
Katherine is also a passionate drummer, dedicating time to playing in her punk band, “Kape Kanaveral.” The band, known for its raw, gritty sound, recently completed a successful EP tour with 13 Deluxe Records, forging friendships with other like-minded rockers in Kilmarnock. Beyond her band commitments, she takes part in drum lessons to continually improve her craft.
Her leisure time is a diverse mix of activities. She loves to spend time socialising at the pub, enjoying live music from her favourite goth and rock bands. Her devotion to music can be traced back to the late 80s, when she first encountered The Cure’s iconic album Disintegration. Katherine also enjoys swimming, cycling, walking, dancing, and, of course, cooking and eating, always eager to explore new culinary experiences.
Though her lifestyle is dynamic, Katherine is deeply passionate about her friends and the women in bands who inspire her. She admires the resilience of middle-aged people in bands, finding their dedication to music a source of motivation. She also has a quirky love for cheese, which she often delights in sharing with her social circle.
Raised in a market town in Hampshire by an Irish mother and a Yorkshire father, Katherine’s upbringing was filled with a blend of rich cultural backgrounds that shaped her independent, bold personality. She embraced city life at an early age, eventually moving to London where she found her true home.
Katherine’s ambitions for the future are simple yet profound. She yearns to “live in peace and die in my sleep.” Musically, she dreams of writing a punk song with a clavé rhythm and hopes to one day be able to play it competently.
Whether refining the words of a publication or beating the drums to the rhythm of her punk rock band, Katherine Mary Derbyshire remains true to herself, constantly striving for balance, joy, and creativity.
