This enterprising group included notable figures like Robert Burns, Gilbert Burns, Hugh Reid, Alexander Brown, Thomas Wright, William M’Gavin, and Walter Mitchell. Notably, it was within the walls of an ale-house owned by none other than John Richard that the inaugural meeting took place.

In a unanimous decision, Robert Burns ascended to the presidency, thereby commencing a chapter of intellectual exchange and discourse that would leave a lasting mark on the community.
