Joel Bremer, born on December 13, 1978, in Sweden, is an acclaimed Swedish folk musician and virtuoso violinist. His remarkable musicianship has earned him recognition and admiration across the folk music community. Known for his exceptional skill and seemingly effortless style, Joel’s contributions to Swedish folk music have been widely celebrated.
Bremer’s musical journey began at a young age, and he quickly became involved in the vibrant Swedish folk music scene. He has played alongside some of Sweden’s most respected fiddlers, such as Wille Toors, Ole Hjorth, Pers Hans, Simon Simonsson, and Anders Rosén, forging deep connections within the folk music community. His collaborations with these talented musicians further solidified his reputation as a leading figure in the genre.
Joel’s discography reflects both his individual artistry and his collaborations with others. His debut album, Joel Bremer (2007), showcased his distinctive style, while his 2013 release, Pigtjusarsväng! with Simon Simonsson, Örjan Hallnäs, and KE Eriksson, demonstrated his versatility and ability to harmonize with other artists.
Throughout his career, Bremer has been recognised with numerous prestigious awards, including the Pål Olles Violin Scholarship (2000), the Bror Hjorth Scholarship (2007), and the Viksta Lasse Scholarship (2013). These honours underscore his significant contribution to the preservation and innovation of Swedish folk music.
I first met Joel on 29 June 2019 whilst playing at the Tobaksspinnarstämman festival in Nås, Sweden. His musicianship was exceptional and seemingly effortless. Later that evening we drunk ants infused vodka and then myself, Joel and Örjan Hallnäs went swimming in a nearby loch.
Bremer continues to be a cherished figure in Swedish folk music, both as a solo artist and as a collaborator. His dedication to his craft, along with his extraordinary talent, ensures his legacy within the folk music community will endure for generations to come.
