Born in 1974, Fiona’s origins tie to Irvine, yet her upbringing found roots in the neighbouring village of Dreghorn, Ayrshire. This region carries an intriguing historical weight, with archaeological findings provisionally pointing to its establishment around 3500 BC, a hint that Dreghorn might claim the title of Britain’s oldest continuously inhabited village.
Fiona’s life story intertwined with that of Kevin Longmuir, an accomplished accordionist and devoted advocate of Robert Burns. They relocated to Kilmarnock, where they now reside, alongside their daughters, Melody and Eden.
Fiona warmly recounts spending time with her brother Jim Gemmill as he grappled with mastering the verses of Tam o’Shanter, recalling the enchantment sparked by Jim’s rendition of the iconic Robert Burns poem, an experience that etched itself vividly in her memory.
