Erik Holst, affectionately known as “Kilmarnock Jesus,” is a multifaceted individual who has become a key figure in Sweden’s folk dance and music scene. Born in the picturesque village of Lekvattnet, Sweden, he grew up just 20 kilometers away from Torsby, surrounded by the natural beauty of Sweden’s countryside. He now resides in Mölnbo, where he continues to lead a life full of creativity, music, and cultural tradition.
Erik’s professional life has found a steady rhythm in the form of teaching boatbuilding. However, outside of his work, his passions shine brightly. A dedicated folk dancer, performer, and musician, Erik is especially known for his role as the host of the annual “FIS” traditional Swedish music and dance festival in Västerås, Sweden. The festival, held every year, has become a beloved event in Swedish cultural life, particularly famous for its Saturday evening ceilidh. This gathering features participants wearing Kilmarnock FC scarves, drinking whisky, and dancing, all while braving temperatures that can dip as low as -26°C outside.
Erik’s nickname, “Kilmarnock Jesus,” was coined during his time hosting the festival, a playful nod to his connection with Kilmarnock FC and his engaging, larger-than-life personality. His love for dance extends beyond the festival, and Erik enjoys long-distance ice skating on frozen lakes and cross-country skiing. He has always been deeply connected to Swedish folk music, a passion ignited in his early years by hearing his mother sing.
A family man, Erik is particularly dedicated to showing his daughter the beauty of the world and instilling in her a sense of wonder and curiosity. He believes in the power of play—a principle that aligns with the Swedish word leka, which means “to play”—and continues to live his life with a playful and inquisitive spirit.
Despite his many talents and achievements, Erik’s greatest ambition is simple: to stay curious and never stop playing, embracing life’s joys and challenges with an open heart.
