Cammy Hill

Cammy Hill - Composed by John C Grant (https://johncgrant.com). Traditional composer from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland.

Cameron Hill’s story unfolds against the backdrop of Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, where his journey began. Nestled within this town, he shares his life with his fiancée Kate and their feline companion Winston. A fervent devotee of both Liverpool and the Killie, he finds joy in weekends spent honing his golf skills at Kilmarnock Barassie Golf Club and Whiting Bay.

A spark ignited within Cammy at the tender age of nine, when he graced the stage as Gavroche in a production of Les Misérables. This initial taste of the limelight kindled a passion that would flourish. As the years unfolded, Cammy’s journey as a performer deepened, with lead roles in musical productions like Les Misérables, where he embodied Jean Valjean, and West Side Story, where he breathed life into the character of Tony.

Fuelled by his love for music, Cammy embarked on a melodic odyssey. His journey began with the keyboard at age 10, transitioning to the piano at 15. Time and dedication culminated in his achievement of a first-class honours degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Today, he imparts his knowledge as a Music Teacher within North Ayrshire Council.

Beyond his educational role, Cammy stands as the resident Musical Director for Ayr Amateur Opera Company, orchestrating harmonious narratives. He also guides a male rock choir at CentreStage in Kilmarnock, where voices blend into an exquisite symphony.

An ardent Burns enthusiast, Cammy has been sharing his passion from a young age, weaving verses of Tam O’ Shanter and reciting Burns’ immortal lines at primary school. January evenings find him immersed in the timeless tradition of Burns Suppers, relishing the taste of haggis, neeps, and tatties as he mesmerizes audiences with his renditions.

When he’s not performing, Cammy turns to his musical muse, Billy Joel, with whom he shares a deep connection. This connection was profound enough to prompt a journey to New York City to witness the piano man in action.

Among the tapestry of Cammy’s journey, moments of serendipity abound. A noteworthy instance was the opportunity to perform alongside John Grant and the Borland Ceilidh Band on a memorable Christmas Day.

In the vibrant narrative of Cameron Hill’s life, Kilmarnock remains both a starting point and a canvas for his passions, talents, and the myriad experiences that shape his musical and performing journey.
