Bruce Kennedy’s life journey has been deeply rooted in Tarbolton, the place of his birth and upbringing. He received his education at Tarbolton Primary and later at Mainholm Academy. The seeds of his lifelong fascination with Robert Burns were sown early, thanks to the influence of his late father, who possessed a profound passion for the bard’s songs.

In December 1977, Bruce embarked on a distinguished career with Strathclyde Police, marking the beginning of a remarkable 30-year service to the community. During his extensive tenure, he was stationed in various neighbourhoods across Glasgow, including Partick, Drumchapel, Govan, and the bustling City Centre. His duties also led him to Renfrew, Paisley, and the picturesque landscapes of Ayrshire. Within the police force, Bruce’s roles predominantly revolved around Operational Policing, Criminal Investigation, and Surveillance, allowing him to engage deeply with the intricacies of law enforcement.

The zenith of Bruce’s police service unfolded between 2003 and 2006 when he assumed the esteemed position of officer in charge of policing throughout South Ayrshire. This period was marked by the challenges and rewards of safeguarding the community and upholding the law with diligence and dedication.

Upon his retirement from Strathclyde Police in December 2007, Bruce transitioned into civilian life but remained committed to contributing to the welfare of his community. He took on review work for the Scottish Government, delving into particular aspects related to Counter-Terrorist policing, lending his expertise to enhance public safety. Bruce served as a Justice of the Peace within the Sheriffdom of South Strathclyde, Dumfries, and Galloway, presiding over cases at Ayr J.P. Court. This role underscored his enduring commitment to justice and the rule of law.

Beyond his legal and civic responsibilities, Bruce was active Elder at Alloway Parish Church, where his faith and sense of community found expression. His personal life was marked by a steadfast partnership with his beloved wife, Carol and the joys of parenthood with their daughter.

Bruce’s connection to the rich heritage of Scotland was further exemplified through his membership in the esteemed Alloway Burns Club. Additionally, his passion for preserving and sharing traditional Scottish music was channelled through his involvement in the folk group Luath. Together, they celebrated the musical legacy of their nation, connecting with the soul of Scotland through the power of song.

Bruce sadly passed away on the morning of 26 February 2021 at the age of only 62.
