Hugh Murray, an apprentice electrician with Kilmarnock firm Aird Walker & Ralston, met Ann Hamilton, a machinist in the Nylon Factory, one Saturday night in 1960 at “the dancin” in the Grand Hall, Kilmarnock.

In 1963 they married and moved into flat together in Campbell Street, Kilmarnock, where they had their first child Angela. After a few years, as their family began to expand, they moved house to Dean Street in the north side of Kilmarnock where they had another daughter, Marelle and a son Ewin, before moving to the plush new council estate of New Farm Loch where they lived happily with their family for many years.

This tune, a waltz, was written to celebrate their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary and was presented to them by the their children at a surprise celebration to mark this very special occasion.

The Borland Ceilidh Band play this tune regularly as part of the “Old Time Waltz” set of dances.
